Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cups buttermilk (or whole milk with a tablespoon of lemon juice or vinegar)
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions:

1. Preheat the Waffle Iron:

  • Preheat your waffle iron to the desired heat setting, typically medium-high for a crispy waffle.

2. Make the Waffle Batter:

  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk the eggs, buttermilk, melted butter, and vanilla extract until well combined.
  • Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir gently until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; the batter should be slightly lumpy.

3. Cook the Waffles:

  • Lightly grease the waffle iron with non-stick spray or brush with melted butter.
  • Pour the batter onto the preheated waffle iron, making sure not to overfill. The exact amount depends on the size of your waffle iron.
  • Close the waffle iron and cook according to your machine’s instructions (typically around 4-5 minutes), until the waffles are golden brown and crispy on the outside.

4. Serve:

  • Remove the waffles from the iron and serve immediately. They’re perfect with butter, maple syrup, or any of your favorite toppings like whipped cream, fruit, or powdered sugar.

Tips:

  • Buttermilk: Using buttermilk is key to achieving that light, fluffy texture. If you don’t have buttermilk, you can substitute it by adding a tablespoon of lemon juice or vinegar to regular milk and letting it sit for a few minutes.
  • Crispiness: For extra crispy waffles, leave them in the waffle iron for a few seconds longer, but be careful not to burn them.
  • Keep Warm: If making multiple waffles, you can keep them warm in a 200°F (93°C) oven until ready to serve.

This Waffle House-inspired waffle recipe will give you waffles that are crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, and just as delicious as what you’d get at the restaurant! Enjoy!
