Ingredients:

  • 1 lb (about 450g) mushrooms (button mushrooms, cremini, or your favorite variety)
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for a little heat)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/4 cup fresh grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil (optional, for extra flavor)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Mushrooms:
    • Clean the mushrooms by wiping them with a damp paper towel (avoid rinsing them under water, as mushrooms absorb moisture). Slice the mushrooms into halves or quarters depending on their size.
  2. Cook the Garlic and Mushrooms:
    • In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium-high heat.
    • Add the garlic and cook for 1-2 minutes, stirring frequently, until fragrant and golden (be careful not to burn the garlic).
    • Add the mushrooms to the pan and sauté them for 7-8 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they’re browned and tender. The mushrooms will release moisture, which will evaporate as they cook down.
  3. Season and Add Cheese:
    • Season the mushrooms with salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using).
    • Lower the heat to medium and sprinkle the grated Parmesan cheese over the mushrooms. Stir well so the cheese melts and coats the mushrooms evenly.
  4. Finish and Garnish:
    • Once the cheese is melted and everything is combined, remove the skillet from heat.
    • Garnish with freshly chopped parsley for a pop of color and extra freshness.
  5. Serve:
    • Serve the garlic mushrooms in Parmesan cheese hot as a side dish, on top of a salad, or with crusty bread to soak up the delicious sauce.

These mushrooms are savory, cheesy, and packed with flavor—a perfect addition to any meal!
