Grilled Balsamic Steak Caprese with Mozzarella, Tomatoes, and Basil

Juicy grilled steak meets the fresh, vibrant flavors of a classic Caprese salad—elevated with a sweet-tangy balsamic glaze!

Ingredients:

  • 2 (8 oz) ribeye steaks (or your preferred cut)

  • 2 tbsp olive oil, divided

  • Salt & black pepper, to taste

  • 2 tbsp balsamic vinegar

  • 2 tsp honey (optional, for sweetness)

  • 2 tbsp fresh basil, chopped (plus extra for garnish)

  • 1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved

  • 8 oz fresh mozzarella, sliced

  • 1 clove garlic, minced (optional)

  • Crushed red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)

Instructions:

  1. Marinate the Steak:

    • In a bowl, whisk together 1 tbsp olive oil, balsamic vinegar, honey, half the chopped basil, garlic (if using), salt, and pepper.

    • Coat the steaks in the marinade and let sit at room temp for 15-30 mins (or refrigerate up to 2 hours).

  2. Grill the Steak:

    • Preheat grill or grill pan to high heat.

    • Remove steaks from marinade (reserve marinade) and pat dry.

    • Grill for 3-5 mins per side (for medium-rare) or to desired doneness. Let rest 5 mins before slicing.

  3. Make the Caprese Topping:

    • In a bowl, toss cherry tomatoes, mozzarella, remaining basil, 1 tbsp olive oil, salt, and pepper.

    • Drizzle with the reserved marinade (or reduce it in a pan for a thicker glaze).

  4. Assemble & Serve:

    • Slice the steak and arrange on a platter.

    • Top with the tomato-mozzarella mixture and garnish with extra basil and a sprinkle of red pepper flakes (if using).
